Our Mother Aisha | Episode (1) | O Aisha, This is Gabriel Sending You Greetings of Peace
O Aisha, this is Gabriel sending you greetings of peace.
Allah Almighty has commanded us to emulate the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said:
"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah, you have a good example to follow for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much." [Al-Ahzab: 21]
Following him ﷺ is not limited to outward acts of worship but extends to every aspect of his life ﷺ. This includes his life at home and his treatment of his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, may Allah be pleased with them.
The Prophet ﷺ treated them in the best manner a husband could treat his wives. He would converse with them, listen to their talk, teach them the principles of Islam, answer their questions, and engage in their discussions without annoyance, boredom, or anger.
Among his wives, perhaps the most notable conversational partner of the Prophet ﷺ was Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, may Allah be pleased with her—the truthful daughter of the truthful.
During this blessed month of Ramadan in the year 1442 AH, I will recount some events that occurred between our mother Aisha and the Prophet ﷺ, highlighting their dialogues, educational guidance, and other lessons.
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, held a great status with the Prophet ﷺ, which is evident in his sayings, his actions, and other instances. For example:
When Amr ibn al-As رضي الله عنه asked him: "Who among the people do you love the most?" he ﷺ said: "Aisha." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
This is a clear declaration by the Prophet ﷺ that Aisha was the most beloved to him.
Out of his love ﷺ for her, he prayed for her with a great supplication. Aisha رضي الله عنها said: When I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a good mood, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for me." He said: "O Allah, forgive Aisha for her past and future sins, her hidden and public ones." Aisha laughed until her head fell on her lap from laughter. The Prophet ﷺ asked her: "Does my supplication please you?" She said: "How could it not please me?!" He ﷺ said: "By Allah, it is my supplication for my nation in every prayer." (Narrated by Ibn Hibban)
Who among us would not wish to receive the supplication of the Prophet ﷺ, which he prays for his nation, and which he specifically prayed for Aisha رضي الله عنها?
From his love ﷺ for Aisha, he would not allow anyone to harm her with words or actions. It is narrated in the hadith of Urwah ibn Al-Zubayr that he said: "People used to test their guidance on the day of Aisha." Aisha said: They gathered and spoke to Umm Salama, asking her to tell the Prophet ﷺ to instruct people to give their gifts directly to him wherever he was. Umm Salama mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and he initially turned away. When it was mentioned three times, he said: "O Umm Salama, do not harm me regarding Aisha, for by Allah, revelation never came to me while I was in any woman’s covering other than hers." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
The one who brings revelation is Gabriel, peace be upon him. Gabriel loved Aisha رضي الله عنها. Once he came to the Prophet ﷺ while Aisha was beside him, and the Prophet ﷺ said: "O Aisha, this is Gabriel sending you greetings of peace." She replied: "And upon him be peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah. He sees what I do not see and wishes for what the Prophet ﷺ wishes." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
Gabriel does not love anyone except by Allah’s command. It is narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said: "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Gabriel: ‘Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.’ Gabriel loves him, then calls out in the heavens: ‘Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.’ The people of the heavens love him, and acceptance is established for him on earth." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
Thus, Gabriel’s love for Aisha رضي الله عنها stems from Allah’s love for her. Blessed is Aisha with Allah’s love, Gabriel’s love, and the Prophet’s ﷺ love.
We love those whom Allah and His Messenger love, so we love and are pleased with Aisha, and we love those who love her and dislike those who dislike her. This was the Prophet’s ﷺ advice to Fatimah رضي الله عنها.
Aisha رضي الله عنها said: The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to the Prophet ﷺ. She sought permission while he lay with me on my mattress, and he allowed her. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, your wives sent me to ask you for fairness regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafa, and I remain silent." He ﷺ said: "O daughter, do you not love what I love?" She said: "Yes." He said: "Then love her." When Fatimah heard this from the Prophet ﷺ, she returned to the wives and informed them. They said: "It seems you did not benefit us; go back to the Prophet ﷺ and tell him our wives ask for fairness regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafa." Fatimah said: "By Allah, I will never speak to him about her." (Narrated by Muslim)
O Allah, make us among those who love the wives of Your Prophet ﷺ and defend their honor.
We will continue tomorrow, Insha’Allah.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
